What phones and hardware the TAQIO app supports

TAQIO is a native Android app — you can install and run it on pretty much any regular Android phone from the last few years without any trouble. The app isn't currently available for iPhone (iOS).

Which hardware you actually need depends on how you record passings — the app lets you choose per event, and you can change the method later in settings at any time.

Manual tap needs nothing extra — the operator just taps the participant's name in the list right on the phone screen. QR code only needs the phone's camera, which every Android phone has today — the app scans the code directly, no external scanner required.

NFC timing requires the phone you're timing with to have a built-in NFC reader — without one, the app can't read NFC chips. Most mid-range and higher Android phones have NFC today, though some very cheap models may not; if you're not sure whether your phone has NFC, check its technical specs or the phone's settings under "Connections" / "NFC". For NFC, TAQIO reads the standard chip types (NFC-A, NFC-B, NFC-F and NFC-V), so it works with common NFC stickers and wristbands — it isn't tied to one specific product.

With an RFID reader you're not locked into one specific model or frequency — the app works with common Bluetooth and USB RFID readers at 125 kHz, 13.56 MHz and UHF, without any complicated pairing, installing or configuring. The same goes for the RFID chips themselves: the app accepts a code from any standard chip your reader can read.
